Going to rehab is something we’ve come to expect among the world of the rich and famous.

1. Lindsay Lohan
The child star-turned-Mean Girls icon suffered alcohol and drug issues as she reached her 20s. Lindsay consequently checked into the Betty Ford clinic more than once, and then spent time at Cliffside Malibu. It interfered with her career greatly, but as of 2019, she is clean.
2. Paris Hilton
Heiress Paris reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in 2007 over a matter of ‘drunk-driving’. She was sentenced to an alcohol rehabilitation programme, despite claiming only to have had one cocktail that day.
3. Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten checked into rehab due to depression in 2008. It was incorrectly reported in the media, however, that she was there because of substance abuse.
4. Ben Affleck
Ben checked himself into a Southern California treatment facility in 2018 to overcome alcohol abuse. He was famously supported by both his girlfriend and his ex-wife, the latter being fellow actor Jennifer Garner.
5. Samuel L Jackson
The Snakes On A Plane star suffered drug addiction in tie 1990s and checked into rehab. While he openly admits he struggled to overcome it, he credited his wife and daughter for getting him through the ordeal.
6. Chaka Khan
The songstress checked into rehab in 2016 following the death of her close friend, Prince.
7. Keith Urban
Nicole Kidman’s husband went to rehab 3 times over 8 years for substances including crack cocaine. Although now clean, he claims it almost cost him his marriage.
8. Demi Moore
Demi went to rehab as a young star but then relapsed when she and Ashton Kutcher’s marriage fell apart. She was hospitalized again after reportedly ‘smoking something’ that led to a seizure.
9. David Duchovny
The X Files actor was treated in rehab for sex addiction. He cheated on then-wife Tea Leoni and she threatened to leave him if he didn’t seek help. They split anyway in 2014, regardless of his therapy.

Utah’s Cirque Lodge was the setting of Eva’s recovery process in 2008 when she was checked in for substance abuse. The seemingly squeaky clean star has since spoken honestly about it in the years that have followed.

In 2018 the Spice Girls star checked into rehab for a month in order to ‘better herself’. This followed a turbulent couple of years which saw her embroiled in her bitter divorce battle with her husband Stephen Belafonte.
13. Charlie Sheen
Charlie rose to fame in 1986 – but by 1990 was in rehab. From then until now, the Hot Shots actor, now 50, has battled substance abuse on top of romance and legal dramas. He went back to rehab in 1998, 2010 and 2011.
14. Amy Winehouse
Amy’s story is a tragic one. The troubled British singer suffered from drug and alcohol addiction and, despite writing a song titled Rehab, refused to check into one. Until 2008, when she finally succumbed. Sadly, however, she died in 2011.
15. Coolio
Rapper Coolio checked into rehab in 2009 in order to avoid a prison sentence for drug charges, battery, and possession. He stayed in the facility for 18 months.
16. Dick Van Dyke
The Mary Poppins star’s social anxiety eventually led to alcoholism, for which he went to AA and eventually rehab. There is now a Dick Van Dyke Addiction Treatment Center in New York, named after him.
17. Jon Hamm
Star of long-running series Jon allegedly checked into rehab when the show ended in 2015. It was around the same time he split with his spouse after an 18-year relationship.
18. Catherine Zeta-Jones
In 2011 Catherine’s husband Michael Douglas was diagnosed with cancer, leading to the Welsh-born beauty checking herself into a psychiatric hospital. She sought out treatment for bipolar II, also known as manic depression.
19. Courtney Love
Courtney was in rehab for drug addiction while her husband Kurt Cobain shot himself in 1994. A decade later she found herself back there, on the orders of a California judge after a series of legal issues and controlled substance charges.
20. Drew Barrymore
After finding fame as the cute little girl in ET aged 7, Drew struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and by 13 was sent to rehab by her mother – whom she later divorced.
21. Gary Oldman
Oscar-winning Gary suffered an alcohol addiction that saw him in and out of rehab during his life as a young, upcoming actor.
22. Elton John
In the early 1990s, Elton went to rehab, famously dressed as a chicken. The Your Song crooner used the time to “write a goodbye letter to cocaine”.
23. Jonathan Rhys Meyers
The Tudors actor is an alcoholic and has openly stated that issues in his marriage – including his wife suffering a miscarriage – are to blame. He once went to three rehab centers in the space of one year for treatment.
24. Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes
Alcoholic Lisa was once arrested for setting fire to her mansion. She ended up in rehab, meeting a woman who had an 8-year-old daughter on the outside, which Lisa went on to adopt. The TLC singer died in a car crash in 2002.
25. David Bowie
The late 80s icon was addicted to cocaine, with hard-partying rocker Mick Jagger even commenting once that he was very worried about him. He eventually received treatment for the addiction.
26. Scott Disick
Kourtney Kardashian’s ex tried rehab for drug and alcohol use but left after a week in 2015. He ended up returning though, for thorough treatment, later that year.
27. Daniel Radcliffe
He is said to now be clean and has been since 2010. But Harry Potter star Daniel allegedly showed up to set still drunk, having binged the night before, while shooting the fantasy movies.
28. Zac Efron
In order to deal with fame from such a young age, heartthrob Zac became addicted to cocaine. He ended up checking into a clinic to get clean.
29. Prince Harry
Not only did the young royal admit to taking drugs in his partying days, but he was also addicted to cigarettes – something new wife Meghan Markle has helped him kick.
30. Kurt Cobain
The Nirvana star took heroin in 1986, having previously been addicted to oxycodone and aspirin. His troubled life ended in suicide.
31. Donatella Versace
Having given up drugs following the untimely death of her brother Gianni Versace in 1997, Donatella began using them again – leading to a breakdown. There was one incident, at her daughter’s 18th birthday party in 2004, where she became incoherent. She booked herself into rehab shortly after that.
32. Jason Priestley
The former Beverley Hills 90210 star was caught drunk-driving in 1999 and in 2001 was awarded time to complete an alcohol counseling program as a result. He turned to booze after his marriage fell apart.
33. Patrick Swayze
The late Ghost star checked himself into rehab after becoming addicted to alcohol, after he became “disillusioned with the hype of Hollywood”. His sister also killed herself in 1994, after becoming addicted to painkillers – one reason Patrick sought to save his own life with treatment.
34. Mike Tyson
After admitting to being on drugs during previous major fights in his career, and being caught in possession of illegal substances, boxer Mike checked into rehab in 1997 for “various addictions”.
35. Mariah Carey
In 2001, the songstress shocked the world when it was reported she had tried to kill herself due to the pressures of fame. She refuted these claims but spent time in treatment for depression.
36. Mary-Kate Olsen
One-half of the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate suffered from anorexia and a related cocaine addiction. This led to a stint in rehab, after which she has launched a fashion empire with her sister Ashley.
37. Whitney Houston
Another tragic tale, Whitney’s mother discovered the drug-addicted singer living in squalor at her mansion with her husband Bobby Brown and their young daughter. It was at this point she was whisked off to rehab. Whitney eventually relapsed and was found dead in the bath in 2012.
38. Rose McGowan
Rose went to rehab pre-fame. As a troubled and homeless teenager, the would-be Charmed star took acid at a school dance and landed herself at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon. She escaped, aged 13.
